Carnival – Vocabulary 2014

Brazilian Carnival (Carnaval) is an annual festival and one of the world’s most famous celebrations. The festival is held forty-six days before Easter, which marks the beginning of Lent, and it’s Brazil’s most famous holiday. The six-day event attracts millions of people from around the world to participate in the festivities, which include samba dancing, elaborate costumes, parades and singing.

Every year, the Brazilian people prepare for Carnival, but it varies from one region of Brazil to another. In Rio de Janeiro and Säo Paulo, various Samba schools compete against each other. Each Samba school presents a theme with beautiful costumes, choreographed dances, singing and performing. After all of the performances, one Samba school is declared the winner.

Whether you like to dance, sing, or just enjoy a festive atmosphere, the Brazilian Carnival is always a good time!
