The FIFA World Cup
Brazil beat Chile and Júlio César becomes a hero

It was a tense and dramatic game. Brazil drew 1-1 with Chile after 90 minutes. After extra time, the game was
decided on penalties. Willian and Hulk both missed their penalties for Brazil, but David Luiz, Marcelo and Neymar converted.  Júlio César saved two penalties and became the great Brazilian hero in this dramatic match to decide who goes to the quarter finals

Belo Horizonte, June 28. The game against Chile was one of Brazil's most dramatic in the history of the World Cup. Brazil came very close to being knocked out.  In the last minute of extra time Chile’s striker Pinilla hit Júlio César's crossbar. It was a dramatic end to a game that had at first seemed easy for Scolari's team. In the first half, while not playing great soccer, Brazil dominated the game and had a lot of chances to score, mostly through Neymar. David Luiz scored the first goal, then Chile levelled through Alex Sanchez, after Hulk made a mistake. In the second half it looked like Brazil had suffered a blackout. The players were very tense, feeling the enormous pressure of having to win a World Cup on home soil.

                  A hero is born...

After the end of the extra time, Chile and Brazil went into a penalty shootout. Minutes before they began, Júlio César told the Brazilian players who were to take the penalties: "Don't be afraid of missing. Relax, because I'm going to save three penalties."  He did not, but he did manage to save two penalties, and he became a great hero to 200 million Brazilians.
The number two really made its mark on this game. Chile hit the post twice. Júlio César saved two penalties and the referee, Howard Webb, made two mistakes: in the first half he failed to give a penalty to Hulk, and in the second half he canceled a legitimate goal scored by Hulk. On Friday Brazil face Colombia in Fortaleza, in one of the quarter finals. It will be the first time the teams play each other in a World Cup game.
