2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Brazil beats Croatia 3-1 in a dramatic match.

São Paulo, June 12 - The
World Cup began at the Corinthians Arena, watched by over 61,000 fans. Brazil were far from brilliant, but got their first win. Oscar and Neymar, the two youngest players in the starting lineup, were the best players on the field. Thedefender David Luiz also excelled. Next Tuesday, Brazil face Mexico, in Fortaleza

Brazil and Croatia played an exciting opening game for the 20th World Cup. Neymar, Thiago and several other Brazilian players cried during Brazil's national anthem. When the game began, the Brazilians looked lost on the field, possibly feeling theheavy responsibility in their World Cup debut on home soil. Brazil began looking for their sixth world title with a shock lead after 6 minutes, when the Croatian Elic nearly scored with a header. Minutes
later the first goal of the 2014 World Cup was scored. But it was an own goal by Marcelo, wearing the number 6 jersey. Gradually Brazil began to overcome their nerves and they equalized in the first half through a shot from outside the area by Neymar. The ball hit the post before going in.

More thrills in the second half
The former Santos star turned the match around for Brazil in the second half with a penalty wrongly given by the Japanese referee, Yuichi Nishimura. After that goal, Croatia dominated the game and created a few chances to equalize. But when the Croats seemed close to scoring, Ramires won the ball in midfield. He passed the ball to Oscar, who - even being marked by three Croatian players - managed to shoot from outside the box and score Brazil's third goal. For the first time since the 1970 World Cup, Brazil scored three goals in a World Cup opener. And Marcelo's was the first own goal for Brazil in a World Cup.
