-William Shakespeare’s Life and Work
To be or not to be, that is the question
You have certainly heard this before somewhere. It was said by Prince Hamlet, a character created by Shakespeare, the most influential playwright [1] of all time .Romeo and Juliet is the best-known love story of all time. Two young Italians from Verona fall in love, but could not live happily ever after [2], simply because their families were enemies. This story, which was written over 400 years ago, does not have a happy ending, but it established [3] its author, William Shakespeare. He wrote other tragedies, such as Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth, which are still staged [4] in theaters all over the world. The most important playwright of all time also wrote successful comedies, such as A Midsummer [5] Night’s Dream, and Much Ado [6] About Nothing. The stories written by this English writer skillfully [7] addressed [8] themes such as betrayal [9], morality, corruption, revenge [19], family dramas, romantic relationships, and even political intrigue.

Shakespeare and the Olympics
William Shakespeare was born more than four centuries ago but to this day his major plays continue to be staged all over the world. His plays have been filmed for the cinema and television. His work continues to influence writers around the world. The name of this great English author will be highlighted at the London Olympics. In late January the games organizers announced that the opening ceremony will be inspired by a play written by Shakespeare: The Tempest. Shakespeare was born in a small English town called Stratford-upon-Avon, on April 23, 1564, and he died in 1616, also on April 23. He wrote between 38 and 40 plays, and over 150 sonnets and many poems. At just eighteen years of age he married Anne Hathaway, a woman eight years older than him. The couple had three children.
