If it comes down to [2] statistics, it is likely that a team from South America will win the 2014 FIFA World Cup. No European team has ever won the World Cup in the Américas
The World Cup has been held four times in South America and
 
three times in North America. These seven tournaments were won by South American 
countries. In 1930, Uruguay hosted and won the first World Cup. In 1950, in 
Brazil, Uruguay beat Brazil in the final. In 1962 Chile hosted the World Cup.  
Pelé was injured early in that competition, but the genius Garrincha helped 
Brazil win the title. In 1978 the Argentines, without Maradona, hosted the World 
Cup and won it for the first time.

in North America. In 1970 Brazil won it for the third time, in Mexico. In 1986, 
the World Cup was again held in Mexico, but the winner was Argentina, with Diego 
Maradona. In the 1994 World Cup, held in the USA, Brazil, with Romário and 
Dunga, won it for the fourth time. In 2014, for the first time South America 
will be represented by six countries: Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia, 
Chile and Ecuador. Three other Latin American countries, Mexico, Costa Rica and 
Honduras, will also play.
